FOSSA will deliver the IoT payloads, software, and ongoing support to Open Cosmos.
FOSSA Systems has been selected to provide the IoT SatCom system, including payload antennas and support, for all satellites being developed by Open Cosmos under the Spanish Atlantic Constellation program, commissioned by the Spanish Space Agency [AEE].

As part of this landmark national initiative, FOSSA will deliver the IoT payloads, software, and ongoing support to Open Cosmos, the program’s prime contractor. The satellites are set for delivery in 2027, marking a major step toward establishing a sovereign and secure Low Earth Orbit [LEO] communications infrastructure.
“FOSSA is positioned as the leading IoT and secure satcom provider in Europe. This contract reinforces the global need for sovereign and secure communication systems being deployed by governments and institutions worldwide. We appreciate the Spanish Government’s support and confidence in deploying this system in Spain,”
said Julian Fernandez, CEO of FOSSA Systems.

Empowering Sovereign Connectivity
The Spanish Atlantic Constellation represents a strategic step in ensuring European autonomy in space communications. Each of the constellation’s microsatellites will integrate four key onboard instruments for collecting and transmitting terrestrial data: a GNSS reflectometry sensor for measuring Earth-surface reflections of navigation signals, an AIS receiver for vessel tracking and maritime activity monitoring, multispectral optical cameras for global Earth observation, and FOSSA’s IoT SatCom payload, enabling secure and energy-efficient connectivity for in-situ data collection in remote areas.
FOSSA’s IoT technology will play a central role in this mission, providing reliable, sovereign, and affordable data links to support institutional and governmental applications across multiple sectors.
Real-World Impact Through IoT
The IoT ecosystem deployed by FOSSA will support a wide range of critical applications — from environmental monitoring and wildfire prevention to secure communications for emergency and field personnel. These use cases underscore the importance of accessible, resilient, and sovereign space-based IoT systems for modern societies.
This milestone solidifies FOSSA Systems’ role as a key enabler of Europe’s secure and independent satellite communications capabilities.
