June, 2022 – Madrid, Spain.FOSSA Systems, Spanish IoT connectivity provider and satellite manufacturer, is now the Spanish company with the largest low-earth orbit satellite constellation in history, a milestone achieved after the successful launch on May 25th of another seven picosatellites on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. In total, the company operates 13 satellites, with which it provides global and real-time LoRa IoT connectivity for industrial applications in remote areas or without coverage.
Julián Fernández, CEO and co-founder, together with Vicente González (CTO) of FOSSA Systems, stated that “it is really exciting for all the team to make history, becoming the first Spanish company to have 13 satellites in orbit. During these past two years, all of us have been working to scaleup the company and to become the best IoT connectivity provider of the market. This milestone demonstrates the agility and speed at which we are executing our solution”
These new FOSSASat-2E satellites have joined the constellation of 80 that the Spanish scaleup began deploying in early 2022. The constellation, which currently has 13 satellites, enables FOSSA to offer IoT connectivity, with a 10-hour data latency. As more satellites are deployed, FOSSA will offer lower latency times, reaching near real-time data with the 80 satellites projected for 2024.
The 7 FOSSASat-2E picosatellites were launched in two PocketPOD PocketQube deployers, also manufactured by FOSSA Systems. They left from platform 40 of the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Florida, USA, aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9, on the Transporter 5 mission.

FOSSA Systems verticalizes satellite manufacturing, backhaul infrastructure and launch brokerage, reducing the final cost of deploying these low-capex constellation. Accessible and affordable devices using interoperable technology such as LoRa® can connect to this constellation without the need of expensive or bulky hardware.
This allows FOSSA Systems to offer a complete service of global coverage in IoT connectivity for low-power sensors located anywhere on the planet, and to develop all kind of industrial applications for companies or agencies with assets in remote areas or with poor mobile coverage.
