FOSSA Systems will deploy a constellation of 80 satellites that will offer IoT communications globally
The licenses granted by the CNCM and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation allow the aerospace startup to deploy its network of 80 picosatellites and develop IoT connectivity applications and data transmission in remote areas, for low-power devices.
For Julián Fernández, CEO of FOSSA Systems, “these licenses are a great step towards the deployment of our constellation of satellites, the first six of which we will launch in January 2022. We are very proud to be one of the first companies in the world to be able to provide service of IoT connectivity throughout the earth’s surface “

A new milestone for FOSSA Systems (www.fossa.systems), this time with international scope. The aerospace startup has obtained licenses to operate networks and provide satellite electronic communications services for IoT (Internet of Things) connectivity. These licenses, granted by the CNMC and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, allow FOSSA Systems to deploy its network of 80 picosatellites to provide IoT connectivity throughout the planet, even in remote areas with little or no mobile coverage. This constellation, which will be fully deployed, in orbit and operational in 2023, is the beginning of a global IoT connectivity network that the company plans to develop, with the launch of hundreds of satellites over the next few years.
“These licenses are a great step towards the materialization of our first constellation of 80 satellites, the first six of which we will launch in January 2022. It is a further step to provide connectivity, in remote areas, for all types of low-power devices already low cost ”, explains Julián Fernández, CEO and co-founder of FOSSA Systems. “We are very proud to be one of the first companies at an international level to be able to provide IoT connectivity service throughout the earth’s surface,” he adds.
In its resolution, the CNMC authorizes FOSSA Systems both to operate a public satellite-based electronic communications network and to transmit data through the same system. This constellation of picosatellites (platforms with a mass less than 1 kg) will facilitate all types of companies, with interests or assets in critical areas with no coverage, to measure and parameterize all their processes, optimizing them and improving their production and profitability.
The technological miniaturization developed by FOSSA Systems for the manufacture of its picosatellites allows, in addition to making development and launch processes cheaper, significantly reducing the cost of IoT connectivity and offering its users much cheaper communication than other existing solutions.
In its endeavor to provide IoT connectivity in remote areas, FOSSA Systems offers a comprehensive system, including data collection, monitoring and analysis. It is an optimal solution, implemented with the maximum guarantees, and available for all types of industries: from power plants, fish farms, agriculture, Defense or maritime transport, among others.
The company, founded by Julián Fernández Barcellona (CEO) and Vicente González Negro (CTO), has tripled its workforce in its first year of activity, has more than a dozen engineers, and has signed contracts with twelve companies internationally.
About FOSSA Systems:
